March 3 – WSCC’s third meeting of
the new year will be our annual Herbert Cover Contest. The
first was held 11 November 1959 and was called The Popular Cover
Contest by the WSCC‘s predecesor club, the Washington Philatelic
Society. The second WPS cover contest was held 9 November 1960
and was dedicated to pioneer cover collector, Joseph R. Herbert, as
have been all following contests.

The 2021 contest categories are as follows:

CATEGORIES TO BE JUDGED BY A PANEL OF JUDGES:
1 Earliest
cover with a flag cancellation.
2. Cover with the
most forwarding markings.
3. Cover with the
smallest stamp (one stamp only on the cover).
4. Cover with the
longest town name.
5. Cover with the
earliest pictorial stamp (monarchs, symbols, numbers, or text
are not acceptable).
CATEGORIES TO BE JUDGED BY MEMBERS AND GUESTS PRESENT
6. Cover with the
most ornate town post mark (can be manuscript, machine, or
handstruck marking).
7 Most
interesting cover which traveled at least part way by diplomatic
pouch.
8. Most overpaid
cover for the distance traveled.

Cover with the most interesting advertising.

10. Cover with the most
attactive stamp issued in 2020 (one stamp only on the cover).
Face
masks and social distancing will be the order of the day.
